My Name is T-Rex

When Bojoette lost her name tag, her supervisor told her to come up with something.  There was no point in ordering her a new one, as she hopes to get a nursing position soon and will be leaving them.  Bojoette dug around in a box in the break room and came up with a discarded name that suited her fancy:  Rex.  Her real name--and I know some of you will be disappointed that she doesn't have Bojoette on her birth certificate--starts with a 'T' so she added that to Rex and went on the floor to start her day.  She wasn't the only one with an assumed name:  Kevin was Jose', and young Brittany was Ethel.  It was a red-letter day, too, as the high muckety-mucks were visiting.  One struck up a conversation with my darling daughter.

Muckety-muck:  And what are your suggestions for making our guests have a more enjoyable shopping experience, uh (looking at name tag), um, Rex.
Bojoette:  (helpfully)  It's T-Rex.
Muckety-muck:  Oh, T-Rex.

He went on without batting an eye.  Of course, when Bojoette got home, we laughed ourselves silly  and walked around roaring and slapping one another ineffectively with our tiny T-Rex appendages.

I think management is so trained to be politically correct that they aren't allowed to show surprise for fear of offending someone.

The problem is the economy and the uncertainty of healthcare because of the new healthcare bill. Hospitals are cutting back, and older nurses who would have retired are keeping their jobs, because they are afraid they won't have enough money to live on.

She will find something. It will just take a little longer.

LOL. That sounds like something I'd do :)

I remember when I worked for Target head office there was a stage I went around and swapped everyone's names that were velcoed to their respective cubicles. I was a causal who did each persons job as required and tho I worked there every day, I didn't have a particular "spot", I would help whoever needed it, so I didn't have my name there. I liked to see how long it took them to notice ;) It was one of the most fun places I have worked :)

Bojoette has been at Target five years. She loves her co-workers, and she has a great supervisor now. They are far more relaxed than some companies.

Hahahahahaha! It pays to have a sense of humor when dealing with the public...or management.

Hope she finds a nursing position soon. Are there any prospects?

[identity profile] bojojoti.livejournal.com 2010-07-08 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Management is so trained to be politically correct that they've stifled any sense of surprise in order not to offend anyone. He probably thinks her name is T-Rex!

So far, no one is hiring.

That's great! =)

Funny girl!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2010-07-08 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
She'll certainly be brightening the place up, but I do hope she gets a staff-nurse (or your equivalent) post soon.

Thank you. With the economy being poor and healthcare changes looming, hospitals are being cautious and nurses who could retire, aren't. She will find something, I'm sure.

That's so funny! I like that. We switch name tags occasionally, and there are some extra ones from people who have quit if we forget ours, but nothing so fun as t-rex!

[identity profile] bojojoti.livejournal.com 2010-07-08 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Knowing that the name tag often doesn't match the person, one wonders about the necessity of wearing one.

I once attended a function with a Nigerian friend (whom I have, sadly, lost touch with over the years), and we switched name tags. We were very silly, but I had a grand time as Lemuel Tinglocha!

That is hilarious!

Wearing a name tag that says T-Rex is funny, but having upper management pretend it's normal is hilarious!

:D That's a great story. I like that the Muckety-muck was not even phased by the unusual name.

[identity profile] bojojoti.livejournal.com 2010-07-08 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Upper management is well-versed in political correctness; they aren't allowed to show surprise!

T-Rex ...

Cute story! Your daughter is very clever.

Hahaha! You guys are a hoot!

Any prospects on the nursing job horizon?

[identity profile] bojojoti.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Life is fun, isn't it?

No, T-Rex is having a hard time finding anything. I'm sure something will open up. We'll have to be patient.

Perfect icon!

You two sound like my son and I. Just yucking it up over the silliest of things. That is pretty funny though. I wonder what that big wig was thinking?

[identity profile] bojojoti.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
I can't imagine going through life without laughing every day.

I'm sure that big wig has been through sensitivity training and knows better than to offend anybody, so he goes through life with blinders on.
