Beauty is fleeting!  One must enjoy it while one may.  Although my center rose, Quietness (a Dr. Griffith Buck creation), hadn't blossomed to her full potential, it was time to take photos as we had several days of severe thunderstorms, hail, extreme wind, and tornadoes forecast.  My poor, poor roses.  They are bedraggled currently, and I'll have to cut many canes back that have broken.  But, it was beautiful while it lasted!  This is the Corner Garden.

Quietness is the centerpiece of that garden, and a fine rose she is, too.  She handles our heat and cold with aplomb and isn't deterred by disease.  I highly recommend her for the Midwest.

As you can see by my chubby hand, Quietness has beautifully large blooms.  I had to hold most of the blooms if I didn't want the wind to ruin the picture.

Did you notice my planters?  I leave them out all year, and the weather doesn't bother them a bit.  I planted them when a former neighbor irritated me by talking about another neighbor being "tacky."  (She wasn't tacky at all--just not up to her standards.)  I decided to show my neighbor what true tackiness was.  When we replaced two toilets for water-conserving ones, I asked my husband to give me the tanks for my garden.  He was aghast but agreed.  I plopped the toilets directly across the street from my neighbor's view and planted them with pretties.  I recall gleefully telling my family that my toilet planters would probably force our neighbor to move.  I didn't really believe that, but it wasn't long before Bojojr burst through our door to laughingly announce that a "for sale" sign had popped up in our neighbor's yard!  I hadn't planned on leaving my "planters" as permanent fixtures, but they've grown on me.

When we first moved in, that corner was hideous.  It had two telephone poles, a fire hydrant, a stop sign, and lots of black plastic and rocks.  It took a ton of work from everyone in the family to clean it up and make it attractive.

*laughs*...A LOT
You and I would be kindred spirits in many things but if we ever have to replace a whole toilet I would use the entire fixture as a planter...plants cascading out of both bowl and tank!
:D
Love the Verbena in the tank!

You should receive a city beautification award for that corner...it is THAT pretty!

I'm sure that former neighbor is happy she doesn't have to look at my toilets every day! My husband was a good sport to let me plant them. And now, they've become part of the corner.

Thanks! It's certainly an improvement over the black plastic, rocks, and weeds we inherited.

I had not noticed that your planters were recycled toilet parts
...your plants cascade and camouflage them well.
Your corner garden is, or was, lovely, as it will be again.
Mother nature seems to have the final say as to what she allows to grow...
and maintain, what with all the storms that blow through the areas.

Toilet tanks actually make very good planters. Very sturdy!

Mother Nature has pruned a great many things out of our yard. She giveth, and she taketh away.

Come in spring! It will all shrivel and get crunchy by August. It perks up again in the autumn.

I'll paint the porch swing, and we can sip tea.

That is a beautiful corner - and how very different from when you found it. And I rather like the porcelain planters.

The porcelain planters... I like the idea of recycling, and they make great planters. So many other materials won't endure our winters. These have lasted through several.

All your flowers are lovely! Have you had any tornadoes or bad storms around your home this spring?

There was a tornado sighted about five-ten miles away, but it didn't cause us any trouble. We did have two days of awful wind, and that has disheveled my garden. After rain deluges and the winds, I have lots of broken canes. Some very sad roses I will have to cut back severely. At least I have photos! And they will recover in time.

I could never have transformed this yard on my own. It took lots of manpower from my family.

My garden is my exercise and therapy.
